Unbreakable poled displays from LG: mass production scheduled to begin in summer

Many expected the know: Once is not paying attention, the smartphone is already slipped off the table and chipped by the fall of the screen glass. Does not look nice, partly the touchscreen does not work anymore and repair is often very expensive.

LG wants to put an end to the whole now and has developed so-called poled displays.Rather than pouring in glass layer OLED, component composed entirely made of unbreakable plastic.
As a result, the display is also flexible, so that even more bent or even directly on flexible devices are possible in the future. But above all, not shatter the display when the unit is dropped, which is probably the most pleasant of the new development. There are of course other benefits: the plastic OLED displays are only half as thin and significantly lighter compared to ordinary glass-based OLED displays. How thin is, shows up with a view of a conventional LED display that around 2 mm thickness almost four times as thick fails as a plastic OLED display.

But the technique should not be limited to smartphones, but in the future in other devices such as wearables (smartwatches etc.), tablets, notebooks, and even televisions are used. LG here imagines eg rollable or foldable PC. But it is obvious that the actual components become more flexible.

A few hurdles to overcome but there are still, the new poled displays do not offer the same color accuracy, brightness and energy efficiency as previous OLED panels. But here LG will be hopefully still come up with something to improve the representation quality.

The mass production of displays should start as early as July of this year, so we will certainly see you soon first smartphones with the new display. The LG G Flex 3 example, would be a more than suitable candidate for test. Finally sat already the first G Flex on a flexible plastic OLED display. There, however, as a "proof of concept" rather - that as proof that this technology can be realized.

I think we are on the poled crystal displays in the coming years look really exciting based devices will also be even more resistant.
