After a long battle with the antitrust authorities of our country, Apple is again criticized by the European Union, in particular by the Commissioner for Justice, Viviane Reding. The latter states that the Cupertino company is still not adequately inform customers about their warranty rights.
After the battles Italian about the advertising plans AppleCare warranty and related fines for the lack of communication to customers of the right in the second year of warranty, Apple today is again under pressure from the EU authorities. Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding, has just delivered a speech, accusing Apple of practice formulas guarantee that go against the laws of consumers in many EU member states. Here is an excerpt of the report:
In his speech held today, the Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding spoke about the case Apple as an example of weak enforcement of laws and diversified consumer within the EU. Here are the statements of the Commissioner:
This case and the responses I have received since I sent my letter show quite clearly the reasons why the Commission can not stand by and watch on the problems related to the application of the laws. The approach to the application in this kind of cases has been quite diverse and inconsistent at national level. In at least 21 EU countries Apple is not properly informing consumers about the legal guarantee to which they are entitled.
Reding also wanted to reiterate that the EU authorities must constantly monitor and coordinate the implementation of EU laws on consumers. Consumer groups in Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg and Portugal have already filed a complaint with the Cupertino company for his assurance practices.
So, after the Italian Antitrust sanctions for Apple does not seem finished yet. In Australia, the company was forced to increase the warranty from 12 to 24 months. In the face of the disbursement statement, a warranty of two years seems really the least I can be offered to the customer. What do you think?
