The popular open source player, XBMC, has been updated to version 12.1 for different platforms among which are to Mac, iOS and Apple TV. Note that XBMC supports most existing formats and also offers plugins to enjoy streaming services like Pandora and YouTube.
For the iOS version, the main novelty is that the player interface now supports four-inch screen of the iPhone 5. If you have a second-generation Apple TV, the new version adds support for iOS XBMC 6.
In addition to these improvements, the player has been optimized to improve performance and fix bugs that caused instability.
If you want to install XBMC on your iOS device you need to Jailbreak and follow these steps:
- Go into Cydia and add the following repository: http://mirrors.xbmc.org/apt/ios/
- Go to the search engine and enter 'XBMC'. If you leave multiple results, install the package named as 'XBMC-iOS'.
- Confirm the download process and voila, you have installed XBMC on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
