Mozilla, the open Web proponent, has proudly unveiled yesterday the launch of the first two smartphones running its own operating system OS Firefox. The ZTE Open will only cost 69 euros in Spain. And actually not even that, if you subtract the 30 euro credit. A tempting price, despite the weak hardware.

We have often asked us in the past few months, how much prices are still to skid in smartphones. Nokia Asha series for prices under 100 euros is not comparable in functionality with modern smartphones. But even halfway solid Represented with Android or Windows Phone is to have less than 200 euros.
That there is now also a "real" smartphone operating systems are far below 100 euros, proving ZTE and Mozilla: The ZTE obtained in Spain by Telefónica heavily subsidized for only 69 euros. 30 € of which a starting balance.
Cheap hardware
For the price you get nothing that is comparable to today's high-end phones or even those on the lower spectrum. Open the ZTE has a 3.5-inch screen with a possible low of 480 by 320 pixels resolution, which only holds 1,200 mAh battery (2000 mAh units pack today and have more). Similarly, the low resolution of the camera (3.2 megapixels, are today standard 8) and the RAM with 256 MB (512 there are actually at least everywhere else). The main memory has 512MB just laughable to small, even if it can be upgraded with a microSD card. The manufacturer does not pack today at least 8 GB in his smartphone is usually written into the ground.
But the bottom line is this price: 69 euros. And since the 4 GB microSD card is already in on it. 30 EUR prepaid credit course also. And it is Firefox OS . It appears distinctly as a mixture of the old iOS and Android 2.3, but is especially user-friendly and resource-saving show itself. Apps that are programmed in HTML5, because should not take away too much of the 512 MB of memory. Mozilla praises especially its adaptive App Search. Those looking for something in Firefox OS, will not only web search results and the system, but also matching apps. Those looking for some pieces of music should also find deals on concert tickets and the like. Popular apps that are there from the beginning, are approximately AccuWeather, Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud and Nokia Maps Here.
Gold rush for carriers?
Let us nevertheless at nothing: Firefox OS will not provide the same user experience as Android and iOS. Tests must show it exactly, but I expect to own a few Clues as just the adaptive App Search little different than what iOS and Android had three years ago.
But please: 69 euros, or actually 39? Since you will not go far wrong if you simply tried once. And just those interested in technology might attract the targeted customers in emerging markets Mozilla and the carrier partners with such additional prices. The carrier Telefónica see just how the new system a treasure chest, but they have the ability to customize the system to install their own app stores it and then finally, finally earn money from the burgeoning mobile app and content market. Since it is also worth the devices, as in the case of ZTE open, strong to subsidize. Even the German Telekom will give a price for the similarly equipped Alcatel OneTouch Fire known to be initially sold in Poland these days. Here one can also expect prices to 100 euros.
It is the known cost strategy. But they can rise if the user experience right. And here I see in Firefox OS greater opportunities than in Nokia's Asha, which is clearly to be seen in comparison to Android, the missing class. It will be exciting to see how much more Firefox-equipped devices and how the competition will react to a possible success of the system.
