The appointment of a possible release of Apple's smart watch is getting closer, but the company does not yet have in key markets over the naming rights to the name "iWatch". In the United States and the United Kingdom, other companies have secured rights: The Californian company OMG Electronics has the rights to "iWatch" for the U.S. and the company Probendi Inc. for the markets of Central Europe.
Apple will therefore have to either deal with these rights holders - or to choose an alternative title for his widely in the press as the "iWatch" clock discussed.
As the New York Post announced iWatch is the registration of the trademark in the United States at OMG Electronics. OMG just last year launched a crowd funding campaign on the project in question and may reach the comparatively low amount of $ 1,400. The minimum amount is $ 100,000.
It is not excluded that the company operates this project only for show and secretly waiting for a lucrative offer from Apple. The owner of the company, Jim Lee, contradicted this assumption and decision stated that we are dealing with an independently developed and quite seriously intended project.
For the European side has MacWorld UK identified the company Probendi Inc., which carries the "iWatch" rights since 2008, and is listed under an Italian address, but on their website indicates a contact in the U.S. and sells products, which in turn Colombia as Headquarters name.
Apple has already secured the naming rights in some states for "iWatch", this includes Japan , Russia , the Turkey, Mexico and more. If it claim the name but wants to enforce worldwide - and this is close - so presumably be at costly negotiations. The included photo shows an iWatch concept , which had appeared a few weeks ago.
