The semiconductor manufacturer ST-Ericsson from Switzerland at the CES in Las Vegas unveiled a new quad-core chipset called Nova Thor L8580 officially. While Samsung, Intel and MediaTek already at eight-core processors run on ARM Cortex-A15 base, this processor runs on the eQuad technology with four Cortex-A9 cores, which of course nothing wrong with it, because this chip has a clock speed of up 2.5 GHz. In addition, the processor is manufactured in a 28 nm process, and is still on board with the PowerVR SGX544 Imagination GPU at 600 MHz.
In normal operation the chipset and 25 percent in low-power mode as much as 50 percent less power than the competition. A special feature of this chip is the LTE modem, since this allows a speed of up to 150 Mbit / s Further striking features are not available for this chipset. Later this quarter, ST-Ericsson's customers will be able to try out this new chip, so in the second half of the first devices are expected with this processor.
