From December Car Play is
available on select Mercedes-Benz models in the United States. This is clear from a letter from the
US Group division to retailers.
Accordingly
carplay will be offered in two versions. In
stand-alone package for $ 350 and a multimedia package, whatever that actually
means. Carplay is limited to the
models of classes E, GLE and CLS. About
the C-Class is not notified. One
reason is of C450 AMG unlisted.
The following apps will be
available in the packages: Podcasts, Audiobooks, iHeartRadio, MB At Bat,
Spotify, Stitcher, CBS Radio, Rdio, Overcast, Audiobooks.com, Audible and
Pandora.
According to 9to5Mac,
the multimedia version of carplay is free, that is, they will be integrated as
standard in all the mentioned and produced from December models. This
is based on the COMAND navigation system.
To start carplay, the iPhone
via USB must be connected to the in-car system. However that does not use carplay
simultaneously with the other functions of the basic system itself, as 9to5Mac. So it says here: listen to or control
the COMAND system either music.
In
addition to Mercedes-Benz carplay is also offered by other automakers,
including Audi, Porsche, Chevrolet, Ferrari, Volkswagen and Volvo. Carplay presupposes at least an iPhone
5 and iOS 8.
