98 percent of mobile malware targeted at Android

Smartphones are popular targets for criminals, malicious programs are specifically designed for different operating systems - with exponentially rising trend. Kaspersky thereby assumes that this trend will continue in 2014.

Particularly at risk are users with Android system, which attracts many malware developers because of its widespread use and several failings. Android viruses currently have held a stunning market share of 98 percent.

The virus database of Kaspersky Lab knows so far a total of 200 857 entries for smartphone pests. During 2012 approximately 50,000 new viruses were added, reached only the two last two months of 2013, the same number.

Criminals are particularly interested in the construction of so-called botnets, as the statistics of the antivirus software manufacturer shows: Currently suitable for this virus programs have a share of 55 percent occupied. Botnets are on the IT black market as a popular commodity. With 33.7 percent Trojans rank the SMS cart Check in second place, followed by backdoor software with 21 percent.
